Three Simple Steps to Your First Bloom

Sow After Last Frost

Direct-sow seeds ½" deep in well-drained soil once the danger of frost has passed and the ground has warmed. Or start indoors 2–3 weeks early for a head start. Consistent moisture is critical during this period.

Full Sun + Spacing

Choose a sunny spot with 6+ hours of direct light. Space plants 6" apart for classic 4" bouquet blooms, or spread to 12" for larger statement flowers. Protect young seedlings from birds and rabbits.

Watch & Harvest

Blooms arrive in 50–60 days. Cut when petals just start to unfurl for the longest-lasting stems.

Sow a new row every 1–2 weeks for continuous summer flowers.

Cut at the Right Moment
for Longest Vase Life

Harvest when petals are just beginning to unfurl and the bud is still slightly closed — this gives you the longest-lasting stem indoors.

Use clean, sharp snips or floral scissors and cut to your desired stem length. These are single-stem plants — each cut gives you one perfect flower.

Place stems immediately into a bucket of clean, room-temperature water. Move to a cool, shaded spot to let them "drink up" for a few hours before arranging.

Change vase water every 1–2 days and recut the stem ends on an angle for maximum freshness.

💡 Pro tip: For a nonstop supply of fresh stems, sow a new short row every 1–2 weeks through the growing season. You'll always have flowers coming in at different stages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I store seeds to plant next season?

Seed Storage Tips

Proper seed storage helps maintain germination and keeps seeds viable for years.

Keep Seeds Cool

Store seeds in a cool location, ideally between 35–50°F (2–10°C). A refrigerator is an excellent option for long-term storage.

Keep Seeds Dry

Moisture is the biggest enemy of stored seeds. Make sure seeds are completely dry before storing and keep them in airtight containers. Adding a small silica gel packet can help absorb excess moisture.

Protect from Light

Store seeds in a dark place. Light can trigger premature aging and reduce seed viability over time.

Use Airtight Containers

Glass jars, sealed plastic containers, or moisture-proof seed storage boxes work well. Label each container clearly with the variety name and year.

Avoid Temperature Swings

Frequent changes in temperature and humidity can shorten seed life. Choose a storage location where conditions remain stable.

Bring Seeds to Room Temperature Before Opening

If storing seeds in the refrigerator, allow the container to reach room temperature before opening. This prevents condensation from forming on the seeds.

Simple Rule: Cool, dry, dark, and airtight. Following these four principles will give your seeds the best chance of staying viable for future seasons.

How can I enjoy continuous harvests?

For sunflowers all summer, sow a new planting every 1–2 weeks throughout the growing season.

Are ProCut sunflowers good for beginners?

Yes. As long as they get full sun and basic watering while young, ProCut sunflowers are very forgiving and among the quickest to reach blooming stage. Perfect for first-time cut-flower gardeners.

Will they drop pollen all over my table?

No. ProCut varieties are pollenless, which means cleaner table settings, allergy-friendlier arrangements, and longer-lasting blooms indoors. They're specifically bred for this.

Can I grow them in containers?

Yes — choose a deep, large container (at least 12" deep), quality potting mix, and aim for full sun. Space plants a bit wider (8–12") in containers so each plant has enough room to reach full height.

Do I need to pinch the plants?

No — don't pinch (remove the top of the seedling growth). ProCut sunflowers are single-stem plants. Pinching will reduce or ruin blooms. Let each plant grow on one strong stem for the best, cleanest flowers for cutting.
