Prevent overheating seedlings:
- When daytime temperatures are above 80°F, install the film with the light side up.
- When daytime temperatures are below 80°F, install the film with the black side up.
- Once plants grow and shade the bed surface, temperatures are no longer a concern.
Biodegradable film prevents weed seeds from sprouting, increases soil temperature, and encourages rapid plant root growth. It also prevents direct contact with soil to keep flowers and vegetables clean and can prevent soil-borne diseases from spreading. The film can be turned into the soil at the end of the growing season, or left on the surface to break down. For aesthetics in a landscape, mulch can be placed on top of the film. We have successfully used this mulch film on our flower farm for over 10 years.
