Biodegradable Mulch Film - Light on Black - 48"x 20', 48"x 50' or 48"x 100'

Biodegradable film prevents weed seeds from sprouting, increases soil temperature, and encourages rapid plant root growth. The Bio mulch film is made of Mater-Bi, a vegetable starch-based raw material that is compostable. Film can be turned into the soil at the end of the growing season, or left on the surface to break down. For aesthetics in a landscape, mulch can be placed on top of the film. We have successfully used this mulch film on our flower farm for over 10 years.

To prevent overheating seedlings on planting day, when temperatures are:

Above 80° F, install the film with the light side up.
Below 80° F, install the film with the dark side up.
Once plants are growing and shading the film, the temperature is not a concern.

Instructions:

  1. Garden beds should be smooth/flat on top for best application. Irrigation would be installed underneath the film.
  2. Lay the film on the prepared bed and hold it in place at each corner temporarily with a weight (sandbag, smooth rock, etc.).
  3. Working on the right side of the bed for right-handed folks and the left side for lefties is easiest. Move backward as you work.
  4. Get on the ground with a hand hoe, hold the film on the ground with a few inches exceeding the side of the bed, and scrape soil over the edge.
  5. Complete one side and then do the other side. Pull the film snugly but not overly tight. It will tighten some over the first few days from the sun.
  6. Finish off the ends the same way, allowing for irrigation to stick out for necessary connections.
  7. Scraping the soil along the edge seals it to prevent wind from getting underneath and pulling it off.
  8. We then cover our pathways with mulch (leaves, wood chips, etc.), leaving no bare soil in the garden.

Details:

  • Film has a light and a black side.
  • Bio is 100% made with Novamont Mater-Bi certified compostable and soil biodegradable resins.
  • Leaves no chemical residues in the soil once it degrades.
  • Mater-Bi is certified to the highest international compostable and soil biodegradable standards. Bio is also certified to these standards.
  • No sales to California.

Customer photo review of Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

So far, amazing!!! Easy to install, keeps the weeds at bay, and reduces the amount of irrigation needed. Seedlings really take off when transplanted. Can’t begin to calculate how much time I’m saving by not constantly weeding :)

Customer photo review of Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

It was easy to put down, but you if you have any wind it is difficult to use this product. All sides were buried with dirt, but when you put the holes in it for planting, it takes off like a kite. The only reason it is still. Somewhat on the rose is because we have netting over the top of it. If you are growing in an environment that has wind this may not be the right ground cover for that environmental situation.

Customer photo review of Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

I have used several types of biodegradable mulch, and I definitely think I will stick with Bio360. The option of using the light or dark side depending on what my flowers need is great.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

Not sure yet how it's going to work. I cut it up to cover turf I've dug and piled up, watered down and covered up (I have a LOT of it!) to compost. I love that it's biodegradable, though I'm not sure how long it will last... It's a big experiment! Don't need more plastics in the world! Thank you!

Biodegradable Mulch Film

It has been so dry, hot, and very windy this summer. The Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch kept the weeds out and the moisture in. I will definitely buy it again!

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

It was relatively easy to put down and holds up to dog paws but unfortunately not deer hooves. The tomatoes look great.

Biodegradable Mulch Film

This mulch is thicker than other kinds I've used. It was easy to lay. I am interested to see how it holds up and how it breaks down at the end of the year

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

Seems to be working very well! Had some very stubborn and spreading variegated vinca that was taking over the front yard. I place the bio360 down and put mulch over it and there haven't been any pesky breakthroughs.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

We tried to put it down the first day of planting, but it kept blowing away. Even with stakes, and pushing dirt over the top

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

I love this stuff. Love that its biodegradable. I use it to cover all my annual rows and beds.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

I’ve ordered this for several years for my huge zinnia bed and it’s great! I love that it’s not plastic and biodegrades. I will definitely order this again!

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

I haven’t put it down so I’m not sure how it’s going to perform.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

Easy to use. Way better that plastic weed barriers leaving micro plastics in the veggie garden.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

Loved how my plants grew and no weeds. Easy to punch and transplant. Used row cover all Winter. In addition to my cool flowers, I had lettuce and spinach almost all Winter!!! Will plant more this Fall.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

This is the best idea for weed control I have ever seen. Thanks, Gardener’s Workshop for another great product.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

Easy to install. Tightens as it settles. Hasn't shown any signs of degrading after being in the hot sun and rain. Very pleased!

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

Securing it on the sides in the soil is easier said than done.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

This mulch film was very effective in the pumpkin patch. I laid it over existing grass and planted through the mulch. The film lasted all season and now, in the bare plot, there are only a few pieces left. I have ordered 6 more rolls to expand my gardening areas.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

I was under the impression that the product was going to be a lot more sturdy. First time stretching it out and had multiple blow-out. I'll stick to cardboard.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

Store owner replied: Hi Ben, Thank you for sharing your feedback! Our Bio360 film is quite different from traditional landscape barrier cloth that many people are familiar with. Because it’s designed to be biodegradable, it’s intentionally thin enough to break down in the soil at the end of the growing season while still being thick enough to provide excellent weed control. We’ve been using Bio360 successfully on our flower farm for over 10 years and have found it to be a reliable and effective solution. We appreciate your insights and are always happy to help if you have any questions!

First time using Biofilm and I’m happy with how easy it has been to install. Keeps everything tidy.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

Bio 360 works great! Easy to put down and plant through. No weeds all season! Started to degrade by end of season when plants were also finished for the season. Package arrived beautifully packed and sealed and fabric was pre-cut to desired lengths. Awesome product!!

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

The mulch was easy to put in place, was effective in keeping down the weeds in my pumpkin patch, and lasted the entire growing season. I ordered 3 100' rolls last time and just ordered 6 100' rolls for gardening this year.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch

Very flimsy and difficult to work with.

Bio360 Biodegradable Mulch - 50' - 6 Pack

Store owner replied: Thank you for sharing your experience with Bio360. Laying any film product can be challenging, and because of this learning curve, we have provided a video demonstration in the product gallery that we hope helps. The biodegradable film is thinner than plastic because of it’s biodegradable nature, we have found it to be durable and hope the video will help. Please reach out for further assistance if needed.
